Beret’s Light Junior School in Buwenda, Uganda is for children who have completed three years of kindergarten and are ready to begin primary school. Children at this school are ideally between ages 7 and 11, although kids who started their education late may be older.
Children who live at MercyLine Children’s Home attend Beret’s Light Junior School along with children from the surrounding village of Buwenda. School children receive two meals a day and for many, this is a major source of nutrition.
The school buildings were constructed in 2018 thanks to financial support from our partners in the United States, Beret’s Light. The school buildings are named after Beret’s grandfather and great-grandparents.
Ongoing Support
While we are thankful to have the buildings for the Junior School completed, there are many ongoing costs involved in operating the school. The four excellent teachers employed at the school must be paid, supplies and textbooks must be purchased along with the food for the students. Each student’s family is asked to contribute school fees in the form of cash if possible. If the family cannot afford the fees, they are asked to provide labor or goods in support of the school.
Ugandan school children are required to wear school uniforms and shoes. Some families cannot afford these things so MercyLine provides them when possible.
To give as many children as possible the gift of an education, we need your help with our ongoing school costs. If you are in the U.S., please consider making a donation to our partners, Beret’s Light. Outside the U.S., please donate to MercyLine here.
